ICVA 2023 Assessment Grant Winner

ICVA 2023 Assessment Grant Winner

Congratulations to the 2023 ICVA Assessment Grant winner, Dr. Carolyn Legge, University of Calgary Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, for her proposal, “Does the gamification of reinforcement-based learning affect summative assessment performance? It’s a game of Cards.”

Dr. Legge’s proposal uses the Cards© program (endlessly replayable patient flash cards to prepare for summative assessments and practice clinical problem-solving skills) to enhance veterinary education through gamified, low-stakes assessments. The innovative format and structure of this study will help to, qualitatively, improve the student learning and assessment experience when compared to traditional teaching methodologies that employ limited inclusion of low-stakes formative assessment.
