INFORMATION

Testing Window

The NAVLE application process:

  1. The ICVA NAVLE Application must be submitted PRIOR to the processing of this ICVA State Application. If you have not yet submitted your ICVA NAVLE application, DO NOT PROCEED.
  2. If you do not know where you will be practicing, you have the option of marking the ICVA as your agency for application.
  3. You must submit an application through a state licensing board (or through their designated NAVLE processor) for approval to take NAVLE. The ICVA is the designated NAVLE processor for your chosen board and will verify your NAVLE eligibility on behalf of that board.

Credit cards accepted for payment of the NAVLE fee(s) include Visa and MasterCard only. This is a non-refundable fee.

Testing Window

Examination data (including performance information) may be used by the NAVLE program or made available to third parties for research and other purposes that are disclosed to or authorized by you, as appropriate. In all instances, the data will be confidential, and individual examinees will not be identifiable in any publication. If you do not wish your examination data to be made available for such purposes, you can change your status on your candidate dashboard no later than the end of the testing window.

Please enter your name using correct capitalization. Do not enter your name using all capital letters, even if that is how it appears on your identification. Spell your name exactly as it appears on the identification you plan to present at the test center.

Check this box if you plan on requesting test accommodations. Your accommodation request form ands upporting documentation MUST reach the ICVA office by the application receipt deadline. No exceptions. This listing includes schools accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association. If your school is not listed, select "Other" from this dropdown list. You have indicated your veterinary school was not on the list of schools accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association. You must provide below the complete official name and location of the school from which you were granted, or will be granted, your veterinary degree, including the city and country where the school is located.

To be eligible for the NAVLE, you must fall within one of the following categories:

*One choice below is required.

AVMA COE-Accredited School Senior:

  1. Many AVMA COE-accredited schools provide ICVA with a senior class roster as proof of eligibility for the NAVLE.
  2. Contact your school registrar to verify if your school provides this roster for NAVLE approval and confirm that your name is included.

If your school does not provide a roster:

  1. Contact your school registrar and request that a letter verifying your anticipated graduation date be emailed to ICVA (eligibility@icva.net) so that it is received before the application deadline. Please refer to the NAVLE page if you have questions about application periods and testing windows.
  2. Please ensure the document is sent directly from the school via email, as we cannot accept documentation from candidates or other entities as proof of eligibility.

Important note: You must be within 10 months of graduation during the testing window when you take the examination. For more information, please refer to the NAVLE Candidate Bulletin.

AVMA COE-Accredited School Graduate:

  • Graduates from AVMA COE-accredited schools must have their school provide verification of graduation to ICVA so that it is received before the NAVLE application deadline. Please refer to the NAVLE page if you have questions about application periods and testing windows.
  • Verification must be emailed to ICVA (eligibility@icva.net) and in one of the following formats:
  1. An official letter from your school
  2. An electronic official transcript ordered from your school

Attention UNAM graduates:

  • NAVLE candidates who graduated from UNAM during UNAM's accreditation period (after March 2011 and before December 31, 2025) are recognized as graduates of an AVMA COE-accredited school.
  • Those who meet the criteria above must have UNAM provide verification of graduation to ICVA before the NAVLE application deadline. Please refer to the NAVLE page if you have questions about application periods and testing windows.
  • Verification must be emailed to ICVA (eligibility@icva.net) and in one of the following formats:
  1. An official letter from UNAM
  2. An electronic official transcript ordered from UNAM

Students from a school not accredited by the AVMA COE must be enrolled in or hold certificates from either ECFVG or PAVE:

  • Once you complete the BCSE examination requirement (for ECFVG or the QSE examination requirement for PAVE), you will be eligible to apply for the NAVLE.
  • You must confirm that your educational equivalency program (ECFVG or PAVE) has provided ICVA with verification of your completion of the applicable examination requirement listed above. This verification must be received by ICVA before the end of the application window. Please refer to the NAVLE page if you have questions about application periods and testing windows.

Attention UNAM graduates who graduated outside of UNAM’s accreditation period:

  • NAVLE candidates who graduated from UNAM outside UNAM's accreditation period (before March 2011 and after December 31, 2025) are not recognized as graduates of an AVMA COE-accredited school and must complete the ECFVG or PAVE educational equivalency programs.


ICVA will not accept documents proving eligibility that are emailed or faxed from candidates. All documentation must come from the institution and be sent directly to the ICVA office — not the state board office. All required documentation (verification letters from universities, the ECFVG or PAVE, etc.) must be received by ICVA by the application deadline shown above. No exceptions.

NAVLE candidates are required to accept and agree to all terms outlined in the Candidate Agreement, available in the NAVLE Candidate Bulletin.
