Testing Window

The NAVLE application process:

  1. The ICVA NAVLE Application must be submitted PRIOR to the processing of this ICVA State Application. If you have not yet submitted your ICVA NAVLE application, DO NOT PROCEED.
  2. If you do not know where you will be practicing, you have the option of marking the ICVA as your agency for application.
  3. You must submit an application through a state licensing board (or through their designated NAVLE processor) for approval to take NAVLE. The ICVA is the designated NAVLE processor for your chosen board and will verify your NAVLE eligibility on behalf of that board.

Credit cards accepted for payment of the NAVLE fee(s) include Visa and MasterCard only. This is a non-refundable fee.

Testing Window

Examination data (including performance information) may be used by the NAVLE program or made available to third parties for research and other purposes that are disclosed to or authorized by you, as appropriate. In all instances, the data will be confidential, and individual examinees will not be identifiable in any publication. If you do not wish your examination data to be made available for such purposes, you can change your status on your candidate dashboard no later than the end of the testing window.

Please enter your name using correct capitalization. Do not enter your name using all capital letters, even if that is how it appears on your identification. Spell your name exactly as it appears on the identification you plan to present at the test center.

Check this box if you plan on requesting test accommodations. Your accommodation request form ands upporting documentation MUST reach the ICVA office by the application receipt deadline. No exceptions. Please refer to the NAVLE Candidates with Disabilities page of the ICVA website for test accommodation guidelines, or click here to download the accommodation request packet if you have not already done so.

This listing includes schools accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association. If your school is not listed, select "Other" from this dropdown list. See the NAVLE Bulletin of Information for Candidates for more information.

You have indicated your veterinary school was not on the list of schools accredited by the American Veterinary Medical Association. You must provide below the complete official name and location of the school from which you were granted, or will be granted, your veterinary degree, including the city and country where the school is located.

To be eligible for the NAVLE, you must fall within one of the following categories:

AVMA-Accredited School Senior:

  • Many of the AVMA-accredited schools provide a senior class roster to ICVA as verification of eligibility to take the NAVLE.
  • Please reach out to YOUR school registrar to confirm whether your school provides a roster to ICVA for NAVLE approval and that you are listed on it.

If your school does not provide a roster:

  • Contact your school registrar and request that a letter verifying your anticipated date of graduation be emailed (eligibility@icva.net) to ICVA before the application deadline. Application Periods and the corresponding Testing Windows are available on the NAVLE page.
  • The document MUST be emailed directly from the school.

The NAVLE Candidate Bulletin states you must be within 10 months of graduation during the testing window when you take the examination.

AVMA-Accredited School Graduate:

  • Must provide verification of graduation for receipt by ICVA by the NAVLE application deadline. Application Periods and the corresponding Testing Windows are available on the NAVLE page.
  • Verification must be one of the following documents:

1. Letter emailed (eligibility@icva.net) to ICVA directly from your school verifying the date of graduation before the application deadline. Application Periods and the corresponding Testing Windows are available on the NAVLE page.

UNAM seniors and graduate students must have a letter emailed directly from the AVMA-accredited UNAM.

2. An electronic official transcript ordered from your school to be emailed (eligibility@icva.net) directly to ICVA.

Students from AVMA non-accredited schools:

  • Once you complete the first three steps of either the ECFVG or PAVE, you would be eligible to apply for the NAVLE.
  • You must request that ECFVG/PAVE provide ICVA with verification of completion of step 3. This verification must be received by ICVA before the end of the application window. Application Periods and the corresponding Testing Windows are available on the NAVLE page.


ICVA will not accept documents proving eligibility that are emailed or faxed from candidates. All documentation must come from the institution and be sent directly to the ICVA office — not the state board office. All required documentation (verification letters from universities, the ECFVG or PAVE, etc.) must be received by ICVA by the application deadline shown above. No exceptions.

You must agree to the following statements before this application can be processed.

  • I certify that I am taking the NAVLE for the purpose of being licensed in Illiniois and authorize the release of examination scores to the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation.
  • I understand Illinois may have additional requirements for licensure and passage of the NAVLE does not guarantee licensure in the state of Illinois.   • I hereby certify that all information on this application is true, full, and correct to the best of my knowledge. I have read, understand, and agree with the above statements. I understand that providing false information may result in the suspension or revocation of NAVLE approval or NAVLE scores.
