Where do you want a license to practice veterinary medicine?

The state that approves your eligibility to take the NAVLE is where your NAVLE scores will be sent.  If you plan to practice in more than one state or are unsure of where you will be practicing, use the AAVSB's VAULT service after you graduate and pass the NAVLE.

State and Provincial Licensing Boards

  • If you choose one of ICVA’s 37 states (dark green):
    • complete the online application
    • pay your fees in one transaction
    • submit proof of graduation to ICVA (diploma, letter from the dean, or transcripts)
    • all complete by August 1 for the November-December testing window OR February 1 for the April testing window
  • If you DO NOT choose one of ICVA's 37 states (light blue):
  • complete the online application
  • pay your NAVLE fee
  • complete your state application through your state board
  • pay your state fee to the State Board office
  • submit proof of graduation to your state board office (diploma, letter from the dean, or transcripts)
  • all complete by August 1 for the November-December testing window OR February 1 for the April testing window.
  • Some states have earlier deadlines other than the ones listed.  Please double check with your state board office.

Deadlines:

  • August 1 for the November-December testing window
  • February 1 for the April testing window
  • no exceptions

Fees:        

  • NAVLE fee is $720
  • International fee is an additional $345
  • State NAVLE fee(s) vary visit: State and Provincial Licensing Boards
  • Pay by Visa or Mastercard

NAVLE Locations:

The NAVLE is only administered to graduates of AVMA accredited veterinary schools, senior students at AVMA accredited schools, or foreign graduates enrolled or have completed either the ECFVG or PAVE program.  If enrolled, you must complete step 3 of your program to be eligible to take the NAVLE.  If you have not graduated, you must have an expected graduation date of no later than 10 months from the last day of the testing window.
