Are there exam accommodations available for the NAVLE?

NAVLE - Accommodations & Non-Standard Testing Conditions

ICVA is committed to following the principles of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) by providing equal exam access to all candidates. The application process includes an opportunity for you to indicate the need for reasonable test accommodations.

ICVA distinguishes between two related but different processes: formal disability accommodations under the ADA, and temporary non-standard testing conditions for short-term medical situations. Confusing the two is one of the most common candidate mistakes, so the comparison below is worth reading closely.

Accommodations (ADA) are intended for individuals with a documented physical or mental impairment that substantially limits a major life activity. Requests must be submitted by the applicable testing window’s application deadline (July, January, or May). Once approved, accommodations apply to all future NAVLE attempts through U.S. licensing boards and may include 1.25x, 1.5x, or 2x testing time, more frequent breaks, or both 2x time and more frequent breaks.

Non-Standard Testing Conditions are intended for temporary circumstances, such as recent surgery, injury, or lactation. Requests must be submitted no later than 14 days before the testing window begins. Once approved, the arrangement remains valid for one year from the approval date and may include a modified break schedule of approximately 70–85 minutes per day, compared with the standard 50 minutes.
