Before You Apply

Please review the following guidance carefully before contacting your selected licensing agency.

• Canadian candidates: Applications are processed through the National Examining Board (NEB).
• Select one licensing board: Candidates may apply for authorization to take the NAVLE through only one state or territorial licensing board.
• Choose carefully: The selected licensing board cannot be changed after the application is submitted.
• Confirm jurisdiction-specific requirements: Application requirements, deadlines, and fees vary by jurisdiction.
• Plan ahead: Contact the licensing agency before the NAVLE application deadline to confirm all applicable requirements.
• Prepare your application materials: Candidates are responsible for obtaining and submitting all required NAVLE application materials.
• Submit materials on time: All required materials must be received within the application period. Extensions and exceptions are not permitted.
• Understand score access: The selected board will receive online access to the candidate’s NAVLE score when scores are released and for one year thereafter.
• Transfer scores after passing: Candidates who pass the NAVLE may request score transfers to other jurisdictions. Score-transfer requests may be submitted through the American Association of Veterinary State Boards (AAVSB).
