Now That You Are Ready to Schedule the NAVLE
Meet Our Test Delivery Vendor
Prometric administers the NAVLE at testing centers worldwide via computer-based testing (CBT), offering secure testing for licensure, assessment, and certification with audio/video monitoring and data encryption. Test center locations administering the NAVLE are available on the Prometric website.
NOTE: Prometric test center locations may be modified without notice. If a closure affects you, Prometric will advise you on how to make alternate testing arrangements.
Get Ready to Schedule Your Exam
Before scheduling your exam, complete the following steps:
Review your Scheduling and Admission Permit.
Locate your Scheduling Number, which you’ll need to book your testing appointment.
Confirm your approved testing window and availability.
If you don’t take the exam during your approved window, you’ll need to reapply and satisfy the NAVLE fee again.
Save your Prometric Confirmation Number when scheduling.
You’ll need it to confirm, reschedule, or cancel your appointment. It’s not accessible by the ICVA, and it is not the same as your Candidate Identification Number (CIN).

Verify Your Information
- Contact Details: review your name, email address, and telephone number for accuracy before your appointment. Updates after submission will require the NAVLE Information Change Request Form and applicable fees.
- Testing Region Changes: contact the ICVA immediately if you need to change your testing region. Changes must be made at least 10 business days before the testing window starts and require a $100 Testing Region Change Fee, plus the International Testing Fee if applicable, payable through the ICVA Online Payment Form.
Familiarize Yourself with the Exam Structure
The NAVLE takes around seven and a half (7.5) hours to complete, featuring 360 multiple-choice questions. Beginning with the October–November 2026 NAVLE, the test is divided into twelve (12) blocks of 30 questions each — a structure designed to make the testing process more manageable.

Twelve (12) Testing Blocks
360 multiple-choice questions present a clinical scenario or vignette with one correct answer. Some responses may be partially correct — choose the most accurate. About 15–20% include graphics (photos or radiographs) viewable with zoom, contrast, and pan tools.
Break Time
Available only between testing blocks.
Authorized Breaks: allowed only between testing blocks — whether you stay seated or leave the room, this time counts toward your total. Finishing a testing block early adds unused minutes to your break time; going over subtracts extra time from your overall testing time.
NOTE: Unauthorized Breaks: taking a break during a testing block means the proctor must file an incident report with the ICVA. The clock does not stop, so test time is lost, and it could be investigated as a potential exam security violation.
Exam Day
Test Center Check-In
Arrive at least 30 minutes before your scheduled appointment to allow time for check-in. Arriving more than 30 minutes late means you won’t be able to take the exam, and you’ll need to satisfy Prometric’s rescheduling fee before making a new appointment within your testing window.
Identification Requirements
Present your Scheduling and Admission Permit — on paper or electronically on your smartphone — along with a current, valid government-issued photo ID. Without these, you won’t be able to test, and you’ll need to satisfy Prometric’s rescheduling fee before making a new appointment within your testing window.
- If the name on your permit doesn’t match your government-issued ID, use the NAVLE Information Change Request Form to correct your name.
- Name changes or corrections can’t be made within seven (7) business days of your test date.
- Minor name variations are accepted: differences in capitalization or accent marks, and the presence or absence of a middle name, middle initial, or suffix.
- If your ID doesn’t include a signature, bring a second valid ID that does — a student ID or credit card, for example.
Test Session
- Once check-in is complete, test center staff will guide you to your testing station and walk you through the computer equipment.
- Enter your Candidate Identification Number (CIN), found on your Scheduling and Admission Permit, to begin.
- Once you’re seated and your exam has launched, you can’t cancel or reschedule it.
- Your session ends when you’ve completed and exited all twelve blocks, or when your total allotted time runs out. An “end of session” message confirms your exam has been submitted.
Test-Taking Conduct
Policies and procedures exist to ensure no candidate — or group of candidates — receives an unfair advantage, inadvertently or otherwise. All candidates must adhere to the Testing Conditions and the NAVLE Candidate Agreement. Review the NAVLE Candidate Handbook and Prometric’s test center policies, procedures, and FAQs ahead of time.
NOTE: If the integrity of the exam process appears to have been jeopardized, the ICVA reserves the right to cancel, invalidate, and withhold scores. Failing to adhere to all policies and rules of conduct may result in exam cancellation, revocation of certification, potential legal action, and a report to relevant licensing boards.
