What Is This Exam?
The ICVA administers the Wisconsin State Laws and Rules Examination on behalf of the Wisconsin Veterinary Examining Board. Required for veterinary licensure under Wisconsin Administrative Code VE 1.14(2), the examination assesses your understanding of the laws and rules that govern veterinary practice in Wisconsin.
Who Needs to Take It?
Any candidate seeking veterinary licensure in Wisconsin — whether you’re not yet licensed anywhere, or you’re already licensed in another state or province and are now seeking licensure in Wisconsin.
How to Register
Contact the ICVA directly at icva.net/contact to begin the registration process.
First contact the Wisconsin Veterinary Examining Board at datcpveb@wisconsin.gov or 608.224.4353 for approval. Once approved, the ICVA will send you individualized registration instructions by email.

Format and Access
The Wisconsin State Laws and Rules Examination is open book. You must complete it within 30 days after your eligibility period begins. During the examination, you can access the Wisconsin Statutes, the Wisconsin Administrative Code, and resources from the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP).
Results
Results are provided immediately upon completion and are automatically forwarded to the Wisconsin Veterinary Examining Board — there’s no additional step for you to take.
