PURPOSE

The ICVA provides online NAVLE Self-Assessments (NAVLE SA) aligned with the exam blueprint. These assessments aim to help candidates preparing for the NAVLE understand its content and structure, as well as identify their strengths and weaknesses.

For the most useful performance feedback, it is best to take the NAVLE SA under conditions that closely resemble the actual exam. Candidates are advised to complete the NAVLE SA in a single session using the "standard-paced" mode, allowing optional short breaks between sections. Alternatively, the NAVLE SA can be taken in the "self-paced" mode, which offers twice the time of the standard-paced setting. However, in this mode, the performance feedback might be less accurate or helpful.

THIRTY (30) DAY ACCESS

The NAVLE SA is accessible for 30 days after the assessment launches and must be completed within that period. No extensions or exceptions.

PAUSING OR ENDING THE NAVLE SA

Pausing the NAVLE SA

During the 30-day administration period, candidates can pause their assessment at any time and then resume it at the same section and item where they left off, as long as the time limit for the assessment has not expired.

For example, if a candidate engages in the standard-paced NAVLE SA, they have a maximum of 55 minutes to complete each of the four sections.

  • Consider the scenario where a candidate begins their assessment, spends 30 minutes on section one, and answers 30 out of 50 questions in that section before pausing. When they access the assessment again two days later, it will resume at question 31 of section one with 25 minutes remaining to complete that section.
  • After finishing section one, the candidate will move on to section two, where they will have an additional 55 minutes to answer the questions. This same amount of time applies to sections three and four, all within the allocated 30-day access period.

It is important to note that if a candidate’s allotted time for a section runs out while they are still answering questions, the section will end automatically, and they will no longer be able to answer any remaining questions in that section.

Ending the NAVLE SA

After a candidate completes a section of the NAVLE SA, they must click “End” before proceeding to the next. Once a section is intentionally closed or the time expires, the candidate cannot revisit that section. After the entire assessment is completed, the candidate cannot go back to review any part of it.

PERFORMANCE FEEDBACK

A Self-Assessment Report is provided after finishing a NAVLE SA, displaying the percentage of correct answers for the entire test and in each main topic area. It also includes:

  1. The performance of a comparison group on those same items.
  2. A projected NAVLE score range based on the candidate's performance on the assessment.

Research has shown that the projected score range for candidates taking the NAVLE SA under the standard-paced timing mode is predictive of their later performance on the NAVLE.

Answers to individual questions are not provided for the regular assessment forms (Forms 1 and 3). However, answers are provided for incorrectly answered questions on the expanded feedback form (Form 2). Please refer to the instructions on accessing expanded feedback here.

WEBSITE MAINTENANCE

Routine maintenance on the NAVLE SA website may temporarily restrict access to purchased assessments for candidates. Any scheduled maintenance will be noted on the News and Updates page of the ICVA website.

FREE SAMPLE ASSESSMENT AND TUTORIAL

Two complimentary sample assessments are available: one in English and one in French, each consisting of 10 items. These samples include a tutorial that gives an overview of the delivery software and guides candidates in navigating the NAVLE SA system. An answer key is also provided for these free samples.
